A multilingual chatbot that replies in your customer's language

Gydr is a multilingual chatbot: it reads the language each customer writes in and replies in that language, including Malay and Chinese, across 50 languages. You write your knowledge once, in one language, and there is nothing to switch on.

How does a multilingual chatbot work?

Every time a customer sends a message, Gydr works out which language it is in. The reply is written in that language, and so is everything else the customer sees in that turn. If a customer starts in English and switches to Malay, the chatbot follows.

There is no language menu for the visitor to find and no list of languages for you to maintain. A visitor who writes in Thai is answered in Thai; a visitor who writes in Chinese is answered in Chinese.

Do I need to translate my knowledge into every language?

No. You can keep your FAQs, product catalogue and documents in the language you already work in. When a customer asks in another language, Gydr searches your knowledge, translating the search when your knowledge is written in a different script, and writes the answer in the customer's language.

Names, prices, product codes and links are copied as you wrote them, so a Chinese reply about an English product list still shows the exact product name and price.

  • Tip: if most of your customers write in a language different from your knowledge, test a handful of their real questions on the dashboard's test page before you go live.
  • Tip: where one language is essential to your business, such as Malay terms customers search with, add those words to your FAQs or product keywords.

Which languages does the chatbot support?

Gydr's replies follow whatever language the customer writes. On top of that, 50 languages have every fixed message the product writes itself, such as form questions, buttons and handover notices, translated and checked. They include English, Bahasa Melayu, Indonesian, Chinese, Tamil, Thai, Vietnamese, Filipino, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, Arabic, Spanish, French, German and Portuguese.

If a customer writes in a language outside those 50, the chatbot still replies in their language, but those fixed messages fall back to English. Your own dashboard is available in English, Bahasa Melayu and Chinese.

Can the chatbot handle Manglish and mixed-language messages?

Yes. Customers in Malaysia and Singapore often mix English with Malay or Chinese in one message. Gydr reads the whole message and replies in the language most of its words are in. A brand name or a particle such as "lah" doesn't flip the reply into another language.

What else appears in the visitor's language?

A multilingual chatbot falls short when the answer is in Malay but the buttons around it are in English. In Gydr, everything the visitor reads is in their language:

  • Data Forms you build in your dashboard are asked in the visitor's language, and you can choose to have their free-text answers translated for your team.
  • Handover messages, such as "connecting you to the team" or "no one is available right now", and the ticket confirmation.
  • The chat window's own words on your website: buttons, the message box and error screens.
  • On WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram and Telegram, the same language follows the customer into every reply and button.

Common questions

Yes. One Gydr chatbot answers each customer in their own language, so a Malay speaker and a Chinese speaker can chat with it at the same moment and each get replies in their language.

No. Language detection is automatic. You don't pick languages or build a separate chatbot per language.

Yes. Gydr searches your English knowledge and answers in the customer's language. For languages that share the Latin alphabet with English, such as Malay, test a few real questions first and add local keywords where needed.

A reply uses credits whatever language it is in. When Gydr translates a search to match the language of your knowledge, that small extra step is counted in your usage, which you can see in your dashboard.
